Award or Reward?
March 7, 2007
Today, I received a letter from Craig Foster, Convention Awards Chairperson, of the International Society of Photographers. He reminded me that I can still receive all of the awards I have earned, provided I send him a check.
Uh-huh……hmmm.
I admit, it is tempting to separate myself from $600 for a ticket to a convention in Vegas in my honor. Oh yeah, and to cut expenses, I’ll fly in that morning and leave after the ceremony. Hotels on the strip are expensive for low-rollers like me. That's okay, because I'm receiving an award.
What's the difference between an award and a reward, anyway? For fun, click here: http://homepage.smc.edu/quizzes/cheney_joyce/awardreward.html
Fortunately for me, all I did was submit my photo, "Lost Canyon", to www.picture.com about 18 months ago. They received no more investment from me. Check out the pic and leave a comment here about your review.
What’s really bad about what this organization does is prey on the hopes of people who are seeking recognition for their work. Well, the photo is published on line, after all.
The letter is a beauty. It almost ‘got me’. Don’t let ‘em get you.
