Internet Marketing & Social Networking Go Hand-In-Hand

August 15, 2007

Does it seem like EVERYONE wants to know about it, but NO ONE knows what it is?

The Thirty Day Challenge is an excellent way for one to ‘dive into the deep end’ of internet marketing.  As the Challenge reached the half-way mark today, I’m really amazed at only one thing:

It seems that many people ‘don’t get it.’

Ed Dale is building a social network with TDC.  It seems that very few of the students understand it at all.  As Ed develops his following, he’s not the only one who should be doing it.  It is vital to the health of any internet marketer to develop a following.  There are no shortcuts, folks.  Building a following takes time, a lot of time.

Building a blog is only the beginning.  What separates those who succeed from those who don’t are the same factors that determine any offline success.

Therefore, while Ed & Dan are ‘teaching up a storm’ on TDC, many ’students’ are having trouble with the concept of social media and its purpose.

Look, as a marketer, one must realize that there is intense competition for the same disposable dollar as any offline marketer knows.  An internet marketer must always be ‘on’.  One must still follow the basic tenets of selling and relationship-building.

Ah, relationships……..

In order to make the most of internet marketing today, being a part of many social networks will pay dividends toward building relationships.

Come back tomorrow; I will have a list of social networks you cannot live without.

I am looking forward to the follow up post. Agreed social networks are an important part of any Internet marketing plan. Its no good to simply blindly sign up with every social network out there, companies should pick the most appropriate SNs for their offering and should use each social network according to its strengths.

    Hi, Mhairi:
    Agreed.
Your last line is interesting to me, “companies…..should use each social network according to its strengths.”
So, you think companies should choose SNs ’self-centered-ly’ rather than traffic-centered-ly.
    Is that right?

Got something to say?
