Fame or Fortune?
Greg and I have come to many conclusions regarding doing internet marketing. First, in order to have fortune, we must have fame. It is useless to have the best widget if no one knows we have it. In today’s Web 2.0, doing business is not a ‘get rich quick’ proposition. It really is a business.
Oh, there are more…..too many to take the time for now.
Have you seen the internet marketing funnel? We have been using it to make sure that we do the things we need to do to be successful. So far, so good. Divya Uttam posts this funnel in her 4/12/07 blog. Take a look at the funnel.
There is a lot of information packed into this little model. Don’t let its size fool you; it packs much punch.
Did you take note of the top tier? Feeding the four layers is “Innovative Traffic Building”. Because the left side of the four layers says, “Traffic Generation”, I’m convinced that the right side is how the innovative, traffic generation is done. Search engine optimization is critical. I believe this is why it is mentioned first of all. Social Media is important because you must ‘get out there’ and sell your message. Using MySpace and YouTube is mentioned because they are popular social sites. Be assured, there are many other social sites to be utilized as well. Above all, as the traffic is flowing to the middle, significant interest is being developed.
The middle part of the funnel is what I call, ‘getting’ friendly’. Here in Texas, we like to do business with our friends. It is our way of enjoying our business. Marketing and selling over the Internet takes a little of our Texas swagger out of the transaction, but we hope you get some of it through our blog nonetheless. It is here where any credibility we’ve built will payoff. My point: build rapport.
The payoff conversion occurs in the bottom tier. Closing the business is the result of all of the hard work in monetizing the site. It is the reward of the work well-done.
I encourage you to use this funnel as a model for your internet marketing fame, then fortune.
