Gary Ambrose For ‘Online Marketer of the Year’ - Not This Year!

April 19, 2007

Have you enjoyed the Webinars by Russell Brunson this week?

It has been quite a learning experience.  Brunson’s insight on Monday night for 90 minutes in his presentation, “Six Figures in 7 Minutes A Day,” really gave me a lot of good information.  He actually did a live demonstration in exactly 7 minutes!  Solid presentation.

I won’t ‘bore’ you with any more of the details, but let me say that Brunson has enhanced my perspective on internet marketing.  Thanks, again, Russell.

Today’s schedule was a little tight, so I missed the presentation by Rich SchefrenGreg was able to attend, and he was excited about it.  On his excitement alone, I’d recommend Schefren.

It is last night’s presentation by Gary Ambrose that has me in a bit of a lurch.  After Brunson’s awesome imparting, Ambrose was a huge ‘letdown’.  Using the ‘birds of a feather’ logic, I thought Ambrose would ‘blow me away’ with golden nuggets of tips and pointers about list-building.  Instead, I filled 3 ½ legal pages of mini-rants about how much money he made and an ornate pitch to sell a package of his products.  I wanted more from him.

It’s my fault; I set myself up for the fall.

As an offline marketer for years, I appreciate a 'good spin' like the next guy.  In fact, the biggest adjustment for me on the ‘Net is the impersonalization of transactions.  I am still amazed at the trial-n-error philosophy applied by buyers to purchasing products.  People just open their wallets, and Ambrose, among others, is all too happy to accept their cash.  They hardly know the guy!  (Says something about our society’s idea of relationship-selling, instant gratification, and his salesmanship, huh?)  I have no complaint with his desire to make money.  Greg and I shamelessly monetize our sites.

I was disappointed with the Ambrose Webinar because, well, because Brunson has been so generous with his knowledge-sharing.  Now that I think about it, I passively assumed that if Brunson endorsed Ambrose, that Ambrose would present his knowledge in a similar fashion.  I let my exuberance get the best of me.  I’m sure Ambrose is a nice-enough guy, however.

In the mass collaboration of Web 2.0, it will be interesting to see if Ambrose’s philosophy of money-making evolves into a loss-leader approach, which he denounced on Tuesday (It’s 1:15AM…..whoa, cowboy).  We’ll see.
