Balancing Our Lives, Online and Offline
May 5, 2007
There is nothing in our virtual worlds quite like human touch.
On Thursday, my wife and I celebrated our 6th anniversary. Kendra and I celebrate everyday that we are together, and once a year comes the anniversary of the first day of the rest of our lives. We are so blessed to have each other.
Likewise, I am so blessed to have a business partner like Greg. He and I are forging a relationship that hits on all cylinders. When we need to visit in person, we have the personal skills to make that meeting effective. We are skilled in personal meetings because we have done hundreds of them in our careers. Interacting in the Web 2.0 world is a different tactic, requiring similar, but different skills.
Greg and I have managed to morph our online relationship into our offline one. He and I spend a great deal of time communicating over the Internet. We use email and video chatting through our portals at VMDirect. We spend a great deal of time on the phone, as well. It is vital to maintain our relationship by doing whatever it takes to protect and maintain it.
What are your relationships like? Are all of them online? Do you take a break from time-to-time to ‘press the flesh’?
My point: while Greg and I are driven to fulfill the promise of BlueSkyBrothers, we take time to take care of the ones who take care of us. I’m talking about balance.
While we have the freedoms we have working on the ‘Net at odd hours, I find the time to take care of the time-needs of my wife and child. It is critical to maintain some sense of harmony with our online and offline relationships, isn’t it? Sometimes, spending time with my family presides over spending time with the business. What I mean is that while our online lives provide us with time-flexibility, it must be managed through a sense of balance.
I may not have much sense at all, but I do make ‘quality time’ for the ones that I love the most. Since I know what it is like to fail in both business and personal relationships, making my life as seam-less as possible is the driving force today. For example, right now, I am sitting at the desktop at my in-laws house. My wife is sitting in the living room with her parents and their grandchild. Since I have spent the whole day with my ‘outlaws’, they are all too happy about spending time with their grandchild, without their son-in-law.
As business ‘brothers’, Greg and I take great care of our relationship. We see the value in having someone to share the load, ideas, and wealth of internet marketing. We also spend as much face-time together as we can, discussing the next steps of our business. And, we have planned to go to a couple of conventions together in the next several months. It will give us time away together to build our relationship stronger.
In closing, I’m sitting here in NW Louisiana (yes, they have broadband internet here), with laughter and joking bantering in the next room as I write this post. It is music to my ears. I hope your life is filled with hugs and laughter. Being on this trip to Louisiana to celebrate our anniversary has been relaxing, providing perspective. I’m excited about getting back to work on Monday, yet I realize how important it is to keep balance by spending time with family and friends.
It is the sincerest desire of Greg and me that you will take some time to get to know us as your online ‘brothers’. We make every effort to supply you with the freshest, valuable business-building content we can find. So, the next time you pull up a chair to read BlueSkyBrothers, bring a cup of coffee and plan to stay a while.
Give us a chance to get to know you. Drop us a comment or two about what you think and let us know how we may serve you better. Let’s make the most of our online relationships and enhance them with online meetings as time permits. Until then, I’m giving you a ‘virtual’ hug to tie you over……
