Web Site Traffic With StumbleUpon
July 26, 2007
Recently I conducted a little test with StumbleUpon and a Squidoo lens to see what it could do for my web site traffic.
WOW!
I put together a lens on a new affiliate program that was recently rolled out at MarketingSoftwareTools.com. Now the lens provides great information and additional tools. Check Out the lens here: http://www.squidoo.com/AffiliateEarning/
Well I simply stumbled the lens and apparently others thought it was pretty good too.
Within a matter of 15 minutes I received 150 uniques visitors directly from StumbleUpon. How cool is that?
That may not seem like a lot and in perspective it may not be, but to me that was a great test and validates the value of StumbleUpon.
If you haven’t heard of StumbleUpon, then read the explanation of this service I found on Wikipedia. If you online and you want to drive more web site traffic to you blog, articles or website then ya need to use StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
StumbleUpon is a web browser plugin that allows its users to discover and rate webpages, photos, videos, and news articles. These webpages are typically presented when the user — known within the community as a Stumbler — clicks the “Stumble!” button on the browser’s toolbar. StumbleUpon chooses which new webpage to display based on the user’s ratings of previous pages, ratings by his/her friends, and by the ratings of users with similar interests. i.e. it is a recommendation system which uses peer and social networking principles. There is also one-click blogging built in as well. Users can rate, or choose not to rate, any webpage with a thumbs up or thumbs down, and clicking the Stumble button resembles “channel-surfing” the web. Toolbar versions exist for Firefox, Mozilla Application Suite and Internet Explorer.

Got something to say?

I’ve seen similar results. Has your traffic been sustainable from SU?
Hi Graham,
It’s too early to tell but I have Only been able to sustain these results by posting quality information and unique content. I believe over time this will shift slightly as readership get higher. Since using this technique my traffic has almost doubled.

Hi Greg,
I’m still not sure about Stumbleupon because although you can undoubtedly increase your traffic quickly and massively my own experience is that I haven’t benefitted from that traffic at all.
I’ve seen visitor numbers quadruple for a few days on a number of occasions since November, but when I look at visitor stats I see that the vast majority of stumblers visit just 1 page; they don’t buy; and they don’t click on AdSense.

Hi David,
Interesting. Too early for me to tell but I have seen an increase in traffic and I have also noticed that I am getting a higher CTR on Adsense. Most importantly, I am seeing an increase in feed subscribers this far. I will be interested to see the outcome on this site over the next few weeks.
