How Is Your Blog Defined?

February 22, 2008

But more importantly, how are you defined by your blog?

This is a questioned that I was not ready to think about today but I received a feedburner email notification from Dosh Dosh regarding his post titled,  “What You Don’t Publish, Defines Your Site.” And ultimately read his post and it made me think…

Scary I know!

Over the past several months I have been examining my quality, frequency and overall goals of several of my blogs.  To be honest I started them with one purpose in mind, to Make Money Online.

Yes, I understand that good quality is important to attract readers and to get readers to keep coming back.  But I was more focused on the balance of doing that, to include making money online.

At the time this is what was most important to me.  And yes it is still important but my goals have changed (maybe because money is not as critical as it once was.)

My biggest take-away from Dosh Dosh’s post was that your reader’s perception of you is determined by what is contained on and in your blog.  Therefore, you need to check your goals, ask for feedback, and compare that with the perception you have of yourself.

I am discovering that when you do things because it is how you are remembered, perceived and thought of, you do a better job delivery against your promise.  Conversely, when you do things because you have to out of necessity, you most likely will get a different outcome.

Dosh Dosh, by his own admission, wants to focus on “theoretical articles that make readers think.”  That makes sense and it works.  Look what it did for me today.

I’m thinking and it hurts my head!

I for one want Blue Sky Brothers, LLC to deliver content that is a source of information, with a focus on practical application.  For example, here is a tool, I tested it and these are my results.  From there the readers can make their own decision.  Ultimately, I need to get away from so many links.  It is confusing.

Before I end this post I want to just point out that Dosh Dosh documents four questions that all bloggers should ask themselves.  You can find the link to the post above.

There ya have it!  I would appreciate a comment regarding your thoughts on this topic.

…and thanks for taking the time to read my introspection.  :-D
