Create a Website Using Wordpress
September 1, 2007
I was reluctant to publish this post because I wasn’t sure that people would find value from it. However, I thought about it again and decided that I didn’t want to assume people new about this awesome technique.
Being a subscriber (if you’re not, you should subscriber to this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/BlueSkyBrothers), you already know that I absolutely believe in wordpress as the best CMS/Blog interface. I make this statement based on three reasons.
1. Ease of Use:
From the install to the set-up to daily management, Wordpress is the easiest that I’ve found to work with. Most hosting services (I use Blue Host), have a program called Fantastico, which allows you to easily install the blogging program. The manual install is a little tougher but still not that difficult.
Designing your blog is easy with all the free themes available. However, my favorite system is the Semiologic Pro Package, which does cost you money. But if you plan on building a business it’s money well spent.
The plugins, that are available, add all kinds of functionality but I’ll talk about that more with the next category.
2. Powerful:
Every time I post new content and I hit “publish” I ping a massive list of directories, including search engines. How cool is that?
The plugins avaliable for Wordpress are hot! All of the add-on plugins provide unbelievable functionality. I just added two on Friday that add sticky-ness and a means to make more money to my site. The first one is called Comment Relish and the second is called Feed Footer If you want to see how they work, leave a comment and you can see how comment relish works and to see how feed footer works sign-up for my feed and notice the banner ad at the bottom of the feed.
3. The Results:
Using Wordpress to set-up your website has resulted in more traffic, more leads and more customers for my business. Jerry and I only use Wordpress now, and we only manage our website with Wordpress as the CMS (Content Management System.) The days of the static sites are over. Combining the website process with the integrated power of a blogging system such as Wordpress is the only way Jerry and I believe is the way to go.
Since we’ve move to this model we have seen a 35% growth in our business.
So bottom-line recommendation: create a website using wordpress and you won’t go wrong.
If you want to do this but are unsure about this process then please visit my personal blog and go to Website Development.

Yep, I’m a great WP fan and, as a web designer, promote blog building over traditional, static, web site building to my clients.
Hi Clive,
Thanks for the comment. Wordpress is awesome and it only gets better. Anybody that wants to build a site should only thinking about a dynamic site with WP.

[...] On September 1st, 2007, I posted an article called, “Create a Website Using Wordpress.” Yesterday I was reviewing my stats and I noticed that I was getting a lot of traffic from the keyword phrase, “website with wordpress.” [...]
WP is the best way to go. Nothing else is as dynamic and user-friendly as WP.

Yes it is. I also find that once you get the hang of it, modifying and using Wordpress is rather simple, yet powerful.
One of these days I’m going to try Joomla just to see how that system performs.

Just my .02. I was a big fan of WP and used Rapid Niche Websites for many of my sites but after about a year I was getting a little tired of the amount of work i had to put into the sites as well as the constant WP upgrades that caused RNW to get a little flaky.
I am guessing Semiologic is similar in that plugins can break, etc. I do still use WP for some blogs but am now using a new tool called AdcentsPro to build my sites. Don’t let the name fool you. This app has just about everything you would ever want in a site builder and is based on tried and true site building methods.
It’s kind of pricey but you get what you pay for and when you add up all the other packages bought over the years it really is cheap for what it does.
Anyway, that’s all I have to say. Nice blog too
Mike
WOW! Your not kidding it is pricey! $795 is a lot especially if you want to build site like that many people utilize a software program like XSite Pro. I use that program too and it is really good.

Hey Greg,
I first started using XSP when it came out but gosh the things hasn’t been updated since who knows when. They have been promising a new release for well over a year now but???
Like I said before I was using Rapid Niche Websites which is a really great WP based tool but every time WP had an update there were issues and I got tired of that. Plus, you now have to pay for upgrades
I liked the fact that Jeff initially wrote the program for his own use like Chris at AdcentsPro did and then decided to sell it.
I have about 50 or so sites that I am currently running a php script from Niches In A Box that generates a lot of pages based on keywords but am going to be converting over to ASP once one little bug gets worked out with the automatic social bookmarking feature.
I agree that’s a lot of cash but like anything else in life you get what you pay for and so far with my testing I have been able to do everything I need from one easy control panel and this product easily replaces the need for multiple products to accomplish the same result.
If I change something the changes are reflected immediately and I don’t have to mess around FTPing files, etc.
The data feed option that’s coming out will make setting up a product store on each site extremely simple according to the video and that will let me get away from the Adsense model.
Gee, this sounds like a sales pitch doesn’t it
Sorry about that but I am kind of excited to be able to produce sites quickly without having to mess around with a bunch of technical issues.
I plan on having my wife help me even more because the admin panel is pretty simple to use.
Take care,
Mike
Hi Mike,
I used Rapid Niche as well but now I only put up WP blogs as websites using WordPress. There is so many great free themes that it just makes sense. Have you heard of Semiologic Pro Package? You should look into them as well.

Hey Greg,
I looked at Semiologic a long time ago but decided on RNW. I just today upgraded to the newest version as I wanted to do a little project with WP even though I am still going to use AdcentsPro for most of my sites.
Take care,
Mike
Mike,
Both my business partner and I earn our living building niche blogs. If fact we will be releasing a new product called “Blogging For Riches” http://www.bloggingforriches.com that shows others step-by-step, how to do the same. It is a complete video tutorial. You should check it out.
Greg
how about blogger blogs?
They are great to test a niche or market but you don’t have total control over the site. What happens if you spend a year updating it and then Google decides to shut you down for whatever reason? I’ve seen this happen before.
