Are You Making a Noise With Your Blog?

December 3, 2007

If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, did it make a noise?

“Absolutely not.”

“Huh?”

Let me explain.

Well, the tree fell and in doing so, it made a crashing sound.  Clearly, if a microphone
was monitoring the fall, it would have recorded the cracking timber.

However, no one heard it.

It made no noise because no one heard it.

Do you feel like you are making no noise with your blog?

Are you doing “everything right” and it seems like no one is reading your stuff?

The obvious answer is ‘driving traffic’.  Yeah, you hear that everywhere.

But, what does it mean?

It means that you are winning the popularity contest when you are driving traffic.
You are getting attention because you are providing noteworthy content.
You are contributing content of quality to your readers.

As in art appreciation, so too is blog popularity.  If beauty is in the eye of the
beholder, so too is the ‘beauty’ of one’s blog.  In plain English, the quality
of your content is determined by your readers (or not).  Then, therefore, your
popularity will be determined.  If your stuff is liked, readers will respond.

The key is finding your niche.  When you are in ‘your element’, your readers will
‘catch-on’ to your gift…….eventually, readers will come.

A little shortcut: social bookmarking

You gotta ’stump’ for it.  Like any politician running for office, I hate to put it this way,
but you gotta go get the vote.  You must be involved in multiple, social bookmarking
sites to create a following.

Otherwise, you will fall without making a noise.
