The Art of Moderation: Guy Kawasaki

June 30, 2007

For those of you fellow entrepreneurs out there who are burning the midnight oil, I have encouraging news:

“Just do it,” says Marcus Kazmierczak (Maya’s Mom), taking a motto from Nike.  Personally, it makes me cringe to take the ‘wing it’ approach that many of these successful, online entrepreneurs have taken.

Who is going to argue with success?

Guy Kawasaki posted an article on June 25th entitled, “No Plan, No Capital, No Model….No Problem.”  He is a moderator for a tech panel at the Churchill Club in San Jose, CA.  The panel consists of:

Marcus Kazmierczak, VP of Engineering, Maya’s Mom
Markus Frind, Founder, PlentyofFish.com
James Hong, Co-Founder, HotorNot.com
Dave Lu, CEO, Fanpop
Karen Northup, CEO and Founder, CoreFino

Guy came off refreshingly goofy, which kept the panel loose and made the information exchange more engaging.  He stole the show.  The panel was open and candid, particularly Hong.  His advice: “Have fun!”

The 1:39:40-long video seems to be a bit of a time commitment, but it really delivers (especially between 0:40-1:15, though all of it is very good).  Thank you, Guy.  Great job!

Pop the popcorn and pull up a chair……..now presenting………. the Main Event!

Web Site, Blog and Salesletter Graphics

June 28, 2007

Immediate Attention:  For Web master, bloggers or small business owners…

Most likely your trying to build your business on a shoe-string budget.  And of course this is logical.  Your business is not considered profitable (or healthy) unless your income exceeds your expenses.  That is obvious.  I’m telling you nothing that you don’t already know!

This will help…

I found a resource that is an absolute steal… It is a complete set of graphics that you can use for your websites, your blog or your salesletter.

Webmasters, Bloggers and Salesletter Graphics

I’m not a graphic designer.  My focus is blogging and sharing information.

That is why I like this huge package (and I loved the price.)  You’ll never be profitable if you try to re-invent the wheel on things that are not primary to your business.

Graphics enhance your business and can help you establish greater credibility.  But, honestly it’s a waste of your time doing your own graphics, especially when you can find a resource that you can swipe.

What is Web 2.0?

June 27, 2007

I’m back in the fog again.  Or, maybe, it’s just a thick, fog bank.  Or my thick noggin.  I think it’s the latter.

Traditionally, when I get into a ‘writing funk’, I have a habit of opening Word and typing whatever comes to mind until the juices start flowing.  When I start typing something of value, I clean-up the copy.  Sometimes, I’m typing for hours!  LOL  In part, that’s what I’m doing now.  But, I did find a ‘nugget’ to pass along to you.

Wait!  There’s a break in the bank: “What is Web 2.0?

I went to work for you, doing a little, online research and I turned-up some cool information.

After the ’shakeouts’ of the ‘dotcom bust’ in the third quarter of ‘01, a brainstorming session of seismic proportions was evolving.

It became what is known today as the Web 2.0 Conference .

The first meeting of MediaLive International and Tim O’Reilly produced the evolutionary idea of Web 2.0 from Web 1.0, as demonstrated in the chart below:

Web 1.0 –>Web 2.0

DoubleClick –> Google AdSense
Ofoto –> Flickr
Akamai –> BitTorrent
mp3.com –> Napster
Britannica Online –> Wikipedia
personal websites –> blogging
evite –> upcoming.org and EVDB
domain name speculation –> search engine optimization
page views –> cost per click
screen scraping –> web services
publishing –> participation
content management systems –> wikis
directories (taxonomy) –> tagging (”folksonomy”)
stickiness –> syndication

September 30, 2005, President/CEO of O’Reilly Media, Inc. wrote an article entitled, “What is Web 2.0.”  In it, O’Reilly describes Web 2.0 as “a set of principles and practices that tie together a veritable solar system of sites that demonstrate some or all of those principles, at a varying distance from that core.”

He cited the diagram as the ”Web 2.0 Meme Map” that emerged from his FOO camp.

I could go on-and-on.  But, O’Reilly understands and writes it much better than I could.  So, go to “What is Web 2.0“.

Have fun!  Look, fog’s gone!

Rich Schefren: The Attention Age Doctrine

Rich Schefren: The Attention Age Doctrine

For the last month Rich Schefren has been writing his new report, or should I say “advisory”, that’s sure to ROCK the Internet marketing world.

It’s called The Attention Age Doctrine, and if you’re like me, you’ll want to find out how to profit from this new environment on the Internet.

Unlike his Internet Business Manifesto Trilogy, this advisory will be available only for a limited time.

Get Your Free Copy:  The Attention Age Doctrine

The thing is, Rich really DOES deliver the goods. If you look at his list of clients, it’s basically a “who’s who” list of the top people doing business online. The one’s who have reviewed his drafts have unanimously given it their highest marks.

Jay Abraham had a look and now he wants to interview Rich for his private clients (some of his past interviews included Fran Tarkenton and Tony Robbins.)

Rich and Jay have decided to limit the audience to only those who have read his latest advisory.

Don’t miss out on this free report - I know it will change the way you work and market in today’s competitive marketplace:

FREE Internet Marketing, SEO Tools and So Much More

June 26, 2007

No, really!

How can anyone be pessimistic when it comes to the Internet?  You’ve met those people.  You know, the ones who fight progress and want to be left alone to put their heads back into the sand.  Yeah, you know the ones.

The Internet is a place full of promise.  With all of the bright minds collaberating together on the superhighway, solving world hunger is only a keystroke away!

So, I was surfing at my friend Bonnie’s site, The Best Online Earning Strategies.  I was reading, “It’s Not the Copywriting, It’s the Keywords,” when I read far enough to click on to iTarget.

Dude, what a tool!  It is the tool of tools.

I had so much fun with it.  Then, I saw a Google AdWords Ad that caught my attention.  So, I clicked on to it.

Duuuude, I found We Build Pages.  It has a page of a whole list of internet marketing and SEO tools.  It may be the tool of tools.  You decide, and let me know.

I was in ‘toolman heaven’.  I really liked the first tool: Top Ten Analysis SEO Tool.  Check it out.

If you are really into tools and want more, go to our Software Tool Center

Happy Trails…..

Make Money Online, Creative Thinking and Innovative Ideas

June 23, 2007

What do these all have in common?

They can all be found on a blog that my business partner suggested I take a look at, and when Jerry sends me a link, you never know what your going to find.

I landed on Garry Conn’s blog and although there is tons of great information I gravitated to his Make Money Online catagory. If your a blogger and and you want to make money online then you really need to make it a habit to stop by and review his catagory. You never know what new idea or technique you may pick-up.

As an added bonus, you’ll find cool ideas, interesting points of view and a real sense of community. Garry seems to have figured out what’s important, how to provide quality content and how to create a community of loyal readers.

Bravo!

mySpace Became Unavoidable

June 21, 2007

For YEARS, I have managed to avoid a place that became unavoidable.

There are many reasons to say away, still.  However, the time came to cross over to the other side.

When you’ve spent your whole life without it, you figure you can live without it.  (BTW: I’m cranking this post out in the dark, left-handed only.  My 10-month old is curled up on the right side of my lap.  What I do for your viewing pleasure……)

No, I’m not talking about children………though, I may as well be.

mySpace ….. I opened up a mySpace account.

I always found mySpace to a ‘lower life form’ of social networking.  So, I avoided it.  It seemed ’smarmy’ to me.  You know, like online carousing.  And, when I found out that my wife had opened an account, well, I couldn’t be outdone, could I?

Oh, I almost forgot, I think I got ‘hit-on’ today via mySpace.  I called Greg to confirm.  The conversation went something like this:

He said, “She looks ‘nice’, if you like trannies.”

I said, “If I like what?”

He said, “Transvestites.”

I replied, “Greaaaaa-t.  What a first mySpace experience.  I get spammed by a tranny.”

Has mySpace become this huge masquerade party, or what?

JerryWFranklin

PS: Yes, I’m still typing left-handed in the dark.  And ‘yes’, she’s asleep……still holding her, well, it’s unavoidable.
