Anatomy of a Sales letter

April 14, 2007

The essence of an effective sales letter, or any persuasive copy for that matter, depends on several key components of copy writing techniques and when employed properly can lift your conversion rates higher than anything else.

Many of the top internet marketers, as well as, the direct response marketers farm this work out. But let’s be real that cost money. When you’re first starting out you don’t have the luxury to do this. Most likely you’re busier than a one-armed paper hanger, a one person operation in charge of getting everything accomplished yourself.

So, the big question is, “how do you make your sales copy the most effective, while controlling your cost?”

It’s rather simple actually.

First you need to read the post that Jonathan Leger put up called, Analysis of a high converting sales letter. On his post you’ll find a nice detailed breakdown of the key components all success sales copy should have. What I liked most about his post are the examples he uses during his explanation of each section in the sales letter.

The only problem I had when I first started out was making sure that I fit all the pieces together well, while remembering to include each section. My sales letter didn’t flow well so I ended up using a product called, Killer Sales Letter by Marlon Sanders to help create a properly worded and formatted sales letter. Of course depending on your skill level you may not need this, but I found it saved me time and helped me produce extremely effective copy.

Second, you’ll need to practice, practice, practice

Third, you’ll need to split test. I hate this part because it doesn’t fit with my personality. I like creating and getting things done. But once I actually tried this I was able to make money. Now I do it with everything I do online, (Jerry and I will cover this in greater detail in another post.)

Fourth, make small changes and test some more. Keep doing this until you have achieved the greatest level of profitability.

Fifth, repeat and rinse. :-D

In future post we will cover step three and four in greater detail because these two steps are extremely important. I didn’t have the stomach to do these steps when I first started out and I paid dearly for it. If you want to be successful online, you’ll have to learn to love it!
