Who Really Cares About What Don Imus Says Anyway?

I mean, “Really?”
Since I terminated my television service 10 days ago, I have been listening to the radio. The airwaves are full of talk shows about the Don Imus statement and suspension.
America is still a sucker for a good, racial fight. When will we ‘get over it?’
Okay, get ready, here it comes:
It is ludicrous to think that a 2-week suspension will silence Imus. Furthermore, an apology to the Rutgers’ ladies basketball team is nothing more than a photo opp.
When Mel Gibson blurted out racial epithets to a Malibu police officer and “Kramer” popped-off on stage, did any one really get offended? C’mon, an actor/producer and a pseudo-actor made these comments. Actors, not heads-of-state, People……HELLO!
Who made any of these people authorities? What’s more, who made Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson authorities by which their opinions of Imus’ job retention matters? Talk about making my point….
Do you really care about a statement made by a shock-jock who’s paid for ratings and doesn’t even know you exist? No offense, but Imus doesn’t care what you or I think about what he said, except that I’m writing about it now. Why should we care?
One of the lessons I learned in recent years that I wish I had learned when I was 10 years old is this: just because someone says something, doesn’t make it so. For those of you who don’t speak ‘southern,’ the statement is referring to the credibility of the person speaking, and the allegiance his/her listeners pay. Credibility is always measured by the influence the speaker is allowed to have, according to the audience. Do you listen to a comedian the same way you listen to a preacher? Of course not.
Our over-reactions to the Imus, Gibson, and “Kramer” statements says more about us than it does each of them. If we are really offended, WOW! Are you kidding me?
Change the channel.
Get creative and get off your lazy butt and provide better entertainment–raise the entertainment standard.
Build your business. Provide better products and services. Make some money.
Be soooo busy in your own life that you have no time to pay attention to such non-sense. 
Turn off your TV. Your mother was right: it’s turning your brain into mush.
I digress……forgive me…….I’m back.
Is Imus a credible person? Maybe to his wife or children (if he has either….don’t know….don’t really care, either). Does what he said about those student-athletes really matter to their parents? Sticks and stones……..I hope not.
These questions beg the question: Who is Don Imus? I mean, “Really.”
Also, it seems that Americans enjoy the freedoms of speech they have as long as everyone ‘tickles’ everyone’s ears. As soon as someone says something “counter-culture,” the speaker becomes a target. Why?
Listen, the bottom line is this: if you worry about a statement by someone who doesn’t know you and you don’t care about at all, then, you have bigger problems than the idiot who made the statement in the first place.
I mean, “Yeah, really.”
